Eleanor R. (Porter) Bavis – 94, of Chelmsford, formerly of Billerica and Reading, died Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Lowell General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence P. Bavis.

Born in Boston, MA on December 9, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred L. and Annie K. “Catherine” (Clements) Porter. She was raised and attended school in Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School.

Eleanor worked for the Polaroid Corporation for many years. She loved spending time with her family, swimming and bird watching. Eleanor enjoyed and she  excelled at sewing, crocheting and knitting. She has been a resident Chelmsford for the past 24 years.

Family members include her loving son, Lawrence P. Bavis, Jr. and his wife Kathie of Billerica; daughters, Sandra Bavis Savage and her husband Daniel of Carlisle and Lorraine Bavis Liakos and her husband Thomas of Chelmsford;   9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; she was the sister of the late Olive Logan and Ronald Smith.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 3 at 10:30 AM at St. Theresa’s Church, 466 Boston Road in Billerica. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be held in Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice. Helen  F.  (Kennedy)  McLaughlin – 87, of North Reading and  formerly of Medford, died Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Winchester Nursing Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence W. McLaughlin.

Born in Medford, MA on April 22, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Alice (Burns) Kennedy. She was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School and she later attended Bunker Hill Community College.

Helen worked for the U.S. Post Office at Logan Airport for many years and she retired at age 75. Helen was a former resident of North Reading for over forty years and a member of St. Theresa’s Church.

She was always thoughtful of others even when times were tough for her. She was kind and had a positive attitude. Most everyone loved her laugh. She became a traveler and was able to see many other parts of our world. She got into drawing, sketching, growing flowers and has always loved animals, especially her dogs.

Family members include her loving son, Michael McLaughlin and his wife Betsy of Reading; her daughter, Cheryl McLaughlin of East Boston; sisters, Doris Datz of New Jersey and Alice Meagher of Hanover; grandchildren, Katy, Stephen and Peter.

Her funeral will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Saturday, April 14 at 11 AM. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 13 from 5 to 7 PM. Richard A. Grasso  was a resident of Reading, North Reading, and Woburn Massachusetts, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at age 84.Born in East Boston, MA on March 12,1934. He was the son of Felix and Angelina (Gianino) Grasso. Richard was the husband of the late Elizabeth Ann Marciello-Grasso.

He is survived by his daughter, Denise and husband Bill Holtsberg, his grandchildren Billy and Erika of North Reading.Daughter, Cindy Barbaro of Tewksbury, grandson Jimmy Barbaro Jr., grandson Ricky Barbaro and wife Jessica, great-grandson Noah of New York/Boston, granddaughter Gina Checo and husband Nick Checo of Tewksbury. Daughter, Laura and husband Dennis Young of Butte Montana, grandson Billy-Joe Norwood, great grandchildren Lane and Livia Norwood, granddaughter Elizabeth Norwood-Theissen and husband Scott, great-grandchildren Gabriel and Kaleb Simms, granddaughter Rebecca and husband Sam Stoltz, great-grandchildren Bailey and Rylee Milasevich, granddaughter Emily and husband Chris Souza, great-grandchildren Jonah, Kolby, and Hannah. Rich is survived by his loving companion of seventeen years, Mary Sasso of Woburn. Mary’s daughter Laura Sasso, sons John and wife Helen Sasso and their daughter Emily. Paul and Cathy Sasso and their children Mathew and Nicole. He is predeceased by brothers Vincent, Salvator, Dominic and Carmen Grasso. Sisters Ronnie Pierro, Connie Iapicca, and Mary Grasso.

He graduated from high school and became a cosmetologist. He owned and operated several business’. Rich’s character was of loyalty and a loving heart. Rich loved to play and watch golf, he loved to watch the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins. He enjoyed spending time with his family, coming over Saturday mornings with coffee, a box of donuts, and stories to share.

William R. Delamater  – 85, of Lynnfield and former resident of the Greens in North Reading, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Lynn, MA on March 7, 1933. He was the son of the late Frank and Marion (Cramm) Delamater. Bill was a retired Sergeant and 25 year member of the Lynnfield Police Department. Bill attended school in Lynnfield and Wakefield and was a graduate of Beverly High School. He also attended the Police Academy, while on the Police Force.

Bill was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, he served from 1951 to 1955. He has been a resident of Lynnfield for 80 years, Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wakefield and the Thomson Country Club in North Reading. He was an avid golfer and he also owned a Lobster Boat, he often treated friends and neighbors to Lobsters. Most of all he was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Family members include his loving wife, Mary L. (Demmons) Delamater; his son, William S. Delamater and his wife Christy of Marysville, Ohio; daughters, Kim D. Given and her husband Douglass Given, MD of Menlo Park, CA and Kristen Delamater of Arlington; six grandchildren, Katie, Annie, Trevor, Isabel, Rachel and Jake and one great grandson, Theo.

Kenneth  M.  Jones – 89, of North Reading, died Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Lynnfield. He was the beloved husband of the late Nathalie J. (Pratt) Jones.

Born in North Reading on September 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Elmer and Janet (Spear) Jones. He was a lifelong resident of North Reading. He attended North Reading Public Schools and was a graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1947. Ken served as a member of the Finance Committee, North Reading Rotary Club , the Police Station Building Committee and was a Call Department member for the North Reading Fire Department, from 1946 to 1961. He was the Vice President of the New England Rose Society, a member of the American Rose Society and Rhode Island Rose Society.

Ken worked at the family owned store – Jones Brothers and he owned the Candlewood Lanes in North Reading in the 60’s and 70’s. He sold real estate in North Reading as well as in the Bahamas for Columbus Landings. He also worked in production and sales for his brother Elmer at E.J. Systems in Lawrence.

He was the man that everyone went to when they were in trouble or in need. He would quietly help them in any way he could. He was the guy that would give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar without question or expecting anything in return.

Ken loved to read and watch the Red Sox and Patriots. He loved to sail with his wife on his brother Elmer’s and sister-in- law Ginny’s sailboat. He also loved spending many hours in his rose garden.

Family members include his loving sons, David Ross and his wife Bonnie, Paul Jones and his wife Joanne and the late Myron Jones; daughters, Tracy Countie and her husband John, Kelly Spina and her husband Anthony and Leslie Ann Rogers and her husband Carl; brothers, Elmer Jones and his wife Virginia and the late Melvin Jones and his wife Janice; sisters, Muriel Titus, Dorothy Tompkins and her late husband Tedda and the late Janet Roberts and her late husband Walter; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

His funeral will be held at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading on Tuesday, March 20 at 10 AM.
