Edward P. Surette – 68, of North Reading, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, July 29, 2022.

Born in Stoneham, MA on October 20, 1953. He was the son of the late Peter E., Jr. and Corinne A. (Rightmyer) Surette. Ed was a lifetime resident of North Reading. He was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1971.

He worked for Dynamics Research in Wilmington for many years. Ed was liked by everyone, no one ever said a bad word about him. Ed loved watching sports and playing them when he was younger. He enjoyed candlepin bowling and playing softball in the North Reading Men’s Softball League for many years. He loved to go to the “Big Dog” in town and having beers with his friends. He especially loved his dog “Jake” very much. Ed was a member of the North Reading Moose Lodge.

Family members include his loving brothers, Paul Surette, Peter E. Surette, III and the late Thomas Surette.

Dawnmarie Ripley – 51, of Wakefield, formerly of Lynnfield, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

Born in Lynn, MA on June 24, 1971. She was raised and attended school in Lynnfield and was a graduate of Lynnfield High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Salem State and her Master’s degree from Suffolk University.

Dawn was a Clinical Therapist for many years and was an author, she published her own book to inspire others. Dawn was always trying to help others overcome the obstacles in their own lives.

She was a member of Amp Surf and a founding member of Healthy Lynnfield. Dawn has been a resident of Wakefield for the past two years.

Family members include her loving mother Joanne (Sylvester) Coppola and her late father George H. Ripley; her brother Richard Ripley and his wife Danika Ripley; her nephew, Spencer Ripley and her stepfather Charles Coppola.

Her Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Wednesday, August 3 at 10:00 AM at St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut Street in Lynnfield. Everyone is to go to the Church. Barbara P. (Hoyt) Enos – 84, of North Reading, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Care One at Wilmington. Born in Stoneham, MA on August 14, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Alfred G., Sr. and Anna M. (Jaworski) Hoyt. Prior to her decline in health, Barbara was a lifelong resident of North Reading. She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Enos.

Barbara worked for many years as a school bus driver and then as a school custodian. She was very athletic in her younger years and participated in many sports and recreational activities including softball, cross-country skiing, bowling, canoeing, camping, birdwatching, and playing bingo. She enjoyed following both local and professional sports, particularly the Red Sox and the Patriots. One of her favorite memories was meeting Jerry Remy during a trip to spring training. Barbara loved to drive and thought nothing of jumping in her car and going on a day trip. At home, she enjoyed spending time with family, cooking “Sunday Dinner,”  knitting, and playing cards.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Dale Gramstorff and her husband Chris; her son, Carl Enos and his wife Christen; her grandchildren, Brian Turcotte and Kayla Zayas; and her great grandchildren, Harper and Korra. She is also survived by her brothers, Phillip Hoyt, Herbert Hoyt, and Jason Hoyt; and her sisters, Alice Sweeney and Ruth Ross; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barbara was predeceased by her brothers, Alfred Hoyt, Jr. and Richard Hoyt; and her sisters, Arline Lumb-Garlington and Kathy Cartwright.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 10:00 AM at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading. There will be no calling hours. Private Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

Elsie  M.  (Kingsbury) Smythe – 97, of North Reading, passed away at her home peacefully on her heavenly journey on Sunday, July 24, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles W. “Ted” Smythe.

Born in Everett, MA on June 26, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Homer A., Sr. and Sarah C. (O’Hanley) Kingsbury. She was a graduate of Somerville High School. She worked for Sears and Robuck in Boston for many years and later for the Harvard Coop in Cambridge. Elsie was a resident of North Reading since 1979 and a member of St. Theresa’s Church.

She enjoyed cooking for her family, dancing at Mosleys by the Charles and all kinds of music. She was very devoted to our Blessed Mother Mary. Elsie was grateful for the loving care she received from her son Dan and his wife Barbara.

Family members  include her sons, Daniel F. Lynch, Sr. and his wife Barbara of Medford and  the late Richard J. Lynch; her brother, Homer Kingsbury of Somerville; daughters-in-law, Susan Lynch of Riverside, CA and Joanne Smythe of Alabama ; brother-in-law, Robert Litchfield of Florida; late siblings;  Eve Kane, Virginia Manning, Audrey Litchfield and John Kingsbury;  10 loving  grandchildren, Andrea, Richard, Kathy, William, Sarah, Jason, Kevin, Kara, Jaime and Danny Boy; 21 great grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Thursday, July 28 at 9:15 AM followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street, North Reading. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 27 from 6 to 8 PM. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9929.

Rudolf  R. “Rudy” Boentgen – 80, of North Reading and formerly of New York City, NY, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Winchester Hospital.

Born in New York City, NY on January 12. 1942. He was the son of the late Rudolf and Helen (Mueller) Boentgen. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and he received his Master’s Degree from Northeastern University.

Rudolf was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, he was a First Lieutenant and served from 1961 to 1966.

He worked as a Mechanical Engineer at AVCO, Teledyne Engineering Corporation, Instron Corporation and NSTAR. He was technically minded and his homemade R/C Boat won his school’s Science Fair prize. He was the author of several academic white papers, he was a founding member of the Boston Audio Society and he dabbled in poetry. Rudolf enjoyed model building, sports cars and Hi-Fi audio systems.

He was a member of the Boylston Schul-Verein, Porsche Club of America and Boston Audio Society

He has been a resident of North Reading for the past 48 years and was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Lynnfield for many years.

Family members include his Loving wife of 42 years, Joanna (Kotce) Boentgen; his son, Rudolf  C. Boentgen and his daughter, Kristen J. Boentgen.

His funeral will be held on Monday, July 18 at 10:30 AM at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 17 from 4 to 7 PM.
