Daniel P. Matthews

Daniel P. Matthews – 90, of North Reading and formerly of Somerville, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026. He was a retired Lieutenant of the Somerville Fire Department, he was a 35 year member. He also served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957.

Born in Arlington, MA on September 30, 1935. He was the son of the late Peter and Molly (Young) Matthews. Dan was a graduate of Tewksbury High School. He has been a resident of North Reading for the past 30 years.

He loved his family and friends and was always looking for a reason to laugh. Dan would always be there to help out anyone in need. He really loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman and hunter. He enjoyed fishing, skiing and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Dolly (Tasker) Matthews; his sons Ed Matthews and his wife Mary Ann Matthews and Kevin Matthews and his wife Darlene Matthews; brother of the late Paul Matthews and the late Pat Van Lier. Also survived by 2 grandchildren Collin Matthews and Danielle Messenger and her husband Devin Messenger; two great grandchildren River and Grey.
