James C. Howell

James C. Howell – 79, of North Reading and formerly of Revere, died Monday, September 6, 2021 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Revere, MA on April 4, 1942, he was the son of the late William F. and Marian L. (Oberlander) Howell. James was raised and attended school in Revere.

He was a retired carpenter and a resident of North Reading for the past 48 years. James served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1960 to 1964.

James loved to play golf and watch football and he enjoyed old cars. He was a funny caring and giving person who loved the Lord.

Family members include his cherished wife of 48 years, Kathleen P. (Carr) Howell; his sons, Michael J. Howell and his wife Melissa of Haverhill and Douglas F. Howell and his wife Lindsay of North Reading; daughters, Cheryl Finnegan of North Reading and Joanne Cunneen of Saugus; his brother, David Howell and wife Wendy of Haverhill and sister Marjario Greenstein of Saugus; three grandchildren, Keegan (13), Addie (7) and Graeme (4).

Services will be private and are under the direction of the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading www.croswellfuneralhome.com

  1. my heart is broken. i loved this man so much that it is so hard to think of him being gone. my condolences to the family and friends who loved him also. i will miss his quick wit and smile.

    Grew up across the street from the Howells, and Jim was always one of the “good guys” in the neighborhood. Spent a lot of nights under the spotlights in the driveway shooting baskets with him and a few summers working construction alongside him. He was always a kind, steadying influence.
