Alice M. Mansfield

Alice M. (Jackson) Mansfield – 98, of Danvers and formerly of Beverly, Rockport and North Reading, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Hathorne Hill in Danvers. She was the wife of the late Harley F. Mansfield

Born in Beverly, MA on May 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Carl W. and Olive (McCallister) Jackson. She attended Beverly Schools and Rockport High School.

In spite of tragedy in her early life, Alice never looked back and dwelt on it, but looked forward and got her pilot license. Alice met and married Harley F. Mansfield, another pilot and started an aerial advertising company in 1953, named Aviad in North Reading.

She and Harley raised two sons together, the younger son Wayne joined the family business. When widowed at age 53, she turned to painting for therapy and became an accomplished artist.

Alice was a member of the Rockport Art Association and Danvers Art Association. She had two sailboats and moored them in Salem, MA. She was an expert seamstress, knitter and gardener.

Family members include her loving sons, Wayne Mansfield and his wife Nancy of Boxford and John Mansfield of Porter, Maine; 4 grandchildren, Ian Mansfield, Lucy Mansfield, Jason Mansfield and Megan Mansfield and nine great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to display her artwork. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. www.croswellfuneralhome.com
