Dorothy Tartaro

Dorothy Tartaro of North Reading, MA. Dorothy was blessed with 91 years of life and passed on to her eternal rest on July 9, 2025. She was born in Gary, Indiana on March 13,1934 to the late Joseph and Agnes Krasnansky, who immigrated to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia. She attended Froebel High School and was a graduate of the R.N program at St. Mary Mercy Nursing School in Gary, Indiana. She relocated to Massachusetts and raised a family in North Reading. Dorothy had a remarkable work ethic, a trait she inherited from her parents. She was employed as a R.N. at local hospitals, including Malden Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She spent the majority of her career as a company (industrial) nurse at W.H. Nichols Company (Parker Hannifin) of Waltham, MA.

She had a genuine, caring nature that is reflected in the life-long friendships she made at work and in her personal life. She also had a strong faith that sustained her throughout her life. She was a long-time member of St. Theresa’s Parish in North Reading, MA.

Dorothy was a devoted and loving mother. She is survived by her children; Susan Hurton and her husband Michael of Tewksbury, Joseph Tartaro and his wife Lena of Billerica, Jeanne Tartaro of North Reading; her grandchildren Sarah (husband Todd), Stephen (wife Everly), Rachel (husband Corbin) and Theresa (husband Ben); her great-grandchildren Beatrice, Alex and Lionel and her beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beyond her role as a mother, Dorothy enjoyed time with her beloved dogs; the first being Maggie, followed by Brody, Lily, Roxie, and her current canine companion, Alfred. They all brought laughter and happiness to her life.

She was predeceased by her parents; Joseph and Agnes Krasnansky, her sister Mary Purcell and her brothers Joseph and John Krasnansky.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 9:15 AM from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Parish, 63 Winter Street, North Reading. A graveside service will immediately be followed by a luncheon at a local restaurant. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the animal rescue or charity of one’s choice
