Laura A. McLaughlin

 

Laura A. McLaughlin – 61, of North Reading and formerly of Woburn, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, December 26, 2025.

Born in Winchester, MA on July 31, 1964. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ann Catherine (Glennon) McLaughlin.

Laura was a graduate of Newton Country Day of the Sacred Heart School and attended Saint Anselm College. She was an accountant for SPEC Engineering.

Laura was a devoted partner for 17 years, a loving sister, a fiercely loyal friend, and a second mother to her niece and nephews. No matter the circumstance, she always showed up for the people she loved. Her warmth and generosity were contagious, and time spent with her was filled with laughter, joy and unforgettable memories.

A passionate football and sports fan, she especially loved cheering on her Boston teams. She helped shape the lives of so many, and her love, loyalty, and presence will never be forgotten.

Family members include her loving partner of 17 years, Michael Fritsch; her sister, Ellen Santo and her husband James; her brothers, Robert McLaughlin and his wife Debbie London and the late Thomas McLaughlin; 5 loving nieces and nephews, Thomas McLaughlin, Jr. and his wife AnnMarie, Justin McLaughlin and his fiancé Julianne Curro, James Santo Jr., Ryan Santo and his fiancé Eva Gourdeau and Katherine Santo; grandnephews, Jack, Charlie and Brady McLaughlin. Also survived by Michael’s children; Dana Fritsch and his wife Lindsay and their daughter Haylie and Michael’s daughters, Mikayla and Madison Fritsch.

Her Funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Saturday, January 3 at 9:15 AM, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street, North Reading. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 2 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.

Marjorie Ann Sasso

Marjorie Ann (Meagher) Sasso -(95), of Haverhill, formerly of North Reading and South Yarmouth passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025.  Marge is survived by her daughters, Marcia (Bernie) McIntee, Marjorie (Charles) Slick; brother, John (Carol) Meagher; sister, Patricia (Michael) Schruender; cherished grandchildren, Lisa and Eric Chapman, Joseph (Nicole) Gleason, Emilee (Cody) Davis, Max, Matthew and Sean Slick; great grandchildren, Macy, Ashton, Axel and Mabel; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Joseph; daughters, Gail Chapman, Judith (James) Gleason and Andrea (Robert) Hoergnik; sister,  Alice “Babe” (Robert) Price and Walter (Alice) Meagher. Marge had many exceptional talents including cooking, oil painting, gardening, and knitting beautiful sweaters for her grandchildren.  She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing board games and reading.   She had a keen sense of humor along with “Irish” determination to do whatever she put her mind to. Marge was a very loyal friend and enjoyed her relationships with lifelong friends. Kathleen “Katie-O” Carbone

Kathleen  “Katie-O” Carbone – 70, of North Reading and formerly of Melrose, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington after a lenghty illness.

Born in  Everett, MA on December 18, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Thomas “Buppa” O’Dea and Susan “Gunny” O’Dea. Katie-O moved to North Reading in 1961. She was raised and attended school in North Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1972.

She worked as a cashier for many years, she was known as North Reading’s “Lottery Girl” and for taking care of her “Jabone.”

Katie-O was beyond special in so many ways, her profound love for her boys “Bona and Bone”. She was the greatest mom ever. The way Katie-O loved and adored her best friend and love of her life Jabone. Katie-O and Jabone had a pure and true love. The apple of Katies eyes was her granddaughter Lylah-Rose. Lylah brought her much love and passion. Katie had a true gift of love, her family and friends were so dear to her heart.

She had a passion for horses as a child. She was very passionate about attending and cheering on Lylah at her soccer games and tournaments.

Katie-O shared love and kindness to everyone she met, Jabone always said, she gave the best hugs.

She always loved to watch the Red Sox and Patriots, laying by the pool, sun bathing, and music and dancing gave her joy. Grease Lightening was a favorite, second to Jabone’s music. Katie always put everyone before herself, right to her last breath.

Family members include her loving husband, Stephen “Jabone” Carbone; her son, Phillip “Phil” Carbone, a.k.a. “Bona” and her late son, Thomas “Bone” Carbone; her four legged son, Dexter; brothers, Tom O’Dea and Tim O’Dea; sisters, Chris Gray and the late Sue Gallant; her granddaughter, Lylah Rose Carbone; cherished by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a loving Godmother. Very loved by many family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society. A Celebration of Life will be held for her at a later date.

Alice G. Long

Alice G. (Wolsey) Long – 85, of Peabody, formerly of Lynnfield and North Reading, passed away at her home on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

 

Born in Malden, MA on May 9, 1940, she was the daughter of the late George and Mildred A. (Hudson) Wolsey.  She was raised and attended school in North Reading. Alice was a graduate of the L.D. Batchelder School, Class of 1954, Reading High School, Class of 1958 and the Melrose/Wakefield School of Nursing, Class of 1961.

 

Alice worked as a Registered Nurse for many years. She was absolutely selfless and always cared for others. She was an active 70 year member of the Union Congregational Church in North Reading. She especially enjoyed the Frosty’s Fair. Alice was a youth sports volunteer, she enjoyed golf, skiing, traveling, her son’s and grandchildren’s sports and feeding family and friends on the banks of the Webhannet River.

 

Alice lived the Maxim: Once a nurse always a nurse.  Her family was the most important part of her life.

 

Family members include her loving husband of 63 years, Joseph W. Long; her sons and daughters- in- law, Joseph and Julia C. Long, Stephen and Erin Long, and David and Julia Q. Long. Alice was the mother of the late Gretchen Long. Her sister, Jane McGinnis of Virginia; 8 grandchildren, Conor, Courtney, Chris, Nolan, Jocelyn, Grace and Zach Stearns, Carter and Fiona; 2 great grandchildren, Murphy and Levi.

 

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading. There will be no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association: https://www.alz.org. Robert E. Winters

Robert E. Winters – 85, of Middleton and formerly of North Reading and Somerville, passed away at his home on Friday, December 5, 2025. He was the loving husband of the late Kathryn J. (Repucci) Winters.

Born in Somerville, MA on June 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Henry E. Winters.

Bob worked as a parts coordinator for the MBTA for many years and was a member of Local 25.

Bob loved his son and belated wife more than words can describe, he loved his country and always kept a positive outlook on life, he was non judge mental and he always put other’s needs before his own, especially his family and close friends.

He was the President of Pop Warner Football and was a little League Coach in North Reading and he loved Kitty’s Restaurant. Bob loved traveling in New England, he loved Fox News, scratch tickets and especially his Grand Marquis.

Family members include his loving son, Robert J. Winters and his companion Nicole Calantonio; his brother Bill Elwell; his late sisters, Barbara Nash and Joan Gogos. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13 from 10:00 AM  to Noon, at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. In lieu of  flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warriors, Tunnels To Towers or the Pine Street  Inn.
