Anna M. Martorana

anna martoranaAnna M. (Festino) Martorana – 86, of North Reading, died Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Martorana.

Born in Boston, MA on December 2, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Raffaela (Bucci) Festino. She was a retired clerical worker for Butterworth Publishing Company in Stoneham. She has been a resident of North Reading for over fifty years.

Anna was a special person, who had many friends from bingo, neighbors and people she met everywhere. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter Joanne, they took many trips to Las Vegas, Florida and also a cruise together.

Family members include her loving daughter, Joanne Martorana of North Reading and her sister, Mary Cormio of Medford. She was the sister of the late Joseph and Antonio  Festino, Theodora Festino, Philomena Cerasuolo, Louise Festino and Angelina Bonanno. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Friday, July 22 from 9 AM, followed by an 11 AM Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St. (Rt. 62), North Reading. Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral from 9 to 10:30 AM. Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. Gary J Richard

Gary  J.  Richard  –  62, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and formerly of Arlington, died on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrels Inlet, SC.

Born in Los Angeles, CA on April 26, 1954. He was the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy A. (Parulis) Richard. He was a graduate of Arlington High School. Gary served in the U.S. Army and he worked as a self employed carpenter for many years.

Gary enjoyed fishing, biking and carpentry, he was also known as being very witty.

Family members include his brothers, John Richard and his wife Wendy of North Reading and William “Bill’ Richard of Medford; his sister, Joyce (Richard) McKillop and her husband Bobby of Melrose; nieces, Jessica Richard of Los Angeles, CA, Sherry McKillop of Andover and Michelle (McKillop) Sullivan of Tewksbury.

Jeanne A. Cumming

Jeanne  A. (Hanson) Cumming – 86, of Osterville, formerly of North Reading and Arlington, died at her home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Cumming.

Born in Cambridge, MA on June 27, 1930. She was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Slattery) Hanson. Jeanne was a graduate of Arlington High School. She has been a resident of Osterville for the past thirty years and a former longtime resident of North Reading. She was a former member of St. Theresa’s Church in North Reading and then Our Lady of the Assumption in Osterville. Jeanne was involved for many years prior to illness in the Catholic Guild.

Jeanne had a generous and compassionate heart. She cared deeply for her family and never waivered in her unconditional love for them. She loved her pets, they brought her joy during her life, especially near the end, when they stayed by her side as they could sense her need for comfort.

Jeanne is remembered for her feistiness and her lifelong devotion to God.  Her companionship to her elderly friends on Cape Cod and her joy of cooking for and entertaining her family and many friends. In her retirement she loved Boston Sports, the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots. She Religiously watched Daily Mass on TV.

Family members include her loving sons, Philip Cumming and Scott Cumming and his wife Karen, all of North Reading and her late son, Brian Cumming; her loving daughter, Debbie Cumming and her longtime companion, Ed McNeil of Brighton; cherished granddaughter, Shane Cumming of North Reading.

Her Funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Tuesday, July 26 at 10:30 AM, followed by a Noon Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street (Rt. 62), North Reading. Calling hours will be held prior to the Funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.

Andrew W. MacLeod

Andrew W MacLeod picAndrew  W.  “Chuck” MacLeod, 80 of Ashfield, Massachusetts and former long time resident of North Reading, died July 2, 2016 in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Born in Medford, Massachusetts on December 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Donald G. and Elizabeth (Glennon) MacLeod.  He graduated from Reading High School.

Andrew worked as the administrator for several nursing homes as an administrator throughout his life, including facilities in Billerica, Martha’s Vineyard, and Shelburne Falls in Massachusetts.

Chuck served many roles in the community, including that of Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis, he belonged to the North Reading Moose Lodge and was a member of the National Guard.  He loved soccer and was greatly involved in the North Reading Youth Soccer Program for many years as a coach and a referee.  As a member of the Protestant church in Ashfield, he also served as a deacon and was an active member of the church.

Andrew was a big Bruins fan and also enjoyed watching the Patriots and Red Sox.  He loved the ocean, especially spending time in York Beach, one of his favorite spots.  He lived right near a lake at his home in Ashfield and one of his favorite hobbies was fishing.

He is survived by his wife Pamela MacLeod of Ashfield, his children, Andrew MacLeod of Stoneham, Ronda Jones and her husband Mike of New Hampshire, Darin MacLeod of Portland Oregon, Robert MacLeod of Florida, Merle Donovan, Jr. and his wife Sandra, Robert Donovan and wife Marijia, Eric Donovan and wife Sharon, Heather MacLeod and her husband Andrew Regan, along with Nicole MacLeod and her husband Sebastian Scola and their mother Carolyn MacLeod, all of whom reside in North Reading, Tammy Campbell and husband Aaron and Sharon Donovan who reside in Greenfield.

He was predeceased by his brother, Donald MacLeod, sister, Bettianne Wells, daughter, Laurie Cheever and her mother Gail MacLeod.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces.

Calling hours will be held at Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Friday, July 15, from 4 to 8 PM.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 16 at 11AM at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street in North Reading with a collation to follow.  All are welcome to attend.

Carol A. Miller

Carol Miller picCarol  A.  (Spencer) Miller – 83, of North Reading, died Friday July 1, 2016, at Care One at Wilmington.

Born in Rugby, Virginia on February 26, 1933. She was the daughter of the late John B. and Viola (Richardson) Spencer. Carol was a graduate of Marion College in Marion, Virginia.

Carol worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., she was a school teacher and was a Payroll Administrator for the American Mutual Insurance Company in Wakefield.  She was also a homemaker and a nanny to several families.

Carol was very dedicated to her family and had a great love for life. She had a sense of humor and a cutting wit. She was brilliant, if you ever needed to know something, she had the answer. Carol enjoyed cooking and had amazing Sunday dinners for her family. She was very artistic, a talented painter and she enjoyed antiquing and yard sales. She loved to travel and enjoyed country music.

Carol has been a resident of North Reading for the past 11 years and a former resident of Reading. She was a member of the Edith A. O’Leary Senior Center in North Reading and a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Lynnfield.

Family members include her beloved companion of 38 years, George Allen Heard of North Reading; her loving daughters, Sharon Burke and her husband Stephen, of North Reading and Kathryn Cohen and her husband Harvey of Newton; her son, Jeffrey Miller and his wife Kathleen of Elk Creek, VA; her brother, Sherrill Spencer of Independence, VA; sisters, Laverne Kiser and her husband March of Mouth of Wilson, VA and June Phipps and her husband Dale of Independence, VA; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her memorial service will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Tuesday, July 12 at 7 PM. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 4 to 6:50 PM.
