Barbara (Washburn) Green – 85, of North Andover and a former longtime North Reading resident, passed away on March 2, 2019.  She was the beloved wife for 49 years to the late, Frederick R. Green, Jr.

Born in Medford, MA on January 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Ralph T. and Dorothy (Anselow) Washburn. She was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1951. Barbara was a secretary at John Hancock in Boston and then in later years she worked at The First Congregational Church in Reading. She was a devoted member of the Union Congregational Church in North Reading and a past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile. Along with her husband Fred, she enjoyed many years volunteering at the Aleppo Shrine in Wilmington. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and she loved cooking for family and friends. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished oil painter. Throughout her life she kept her sense of style along with her love of singing and dance. She will be dearly missed.

The family would like to acknowledge the community at Brightview of North Andover where Barbara has resided for the past 5 and a half years. She made many new friends there and the kindness and compassion from the exceptional staff exemplified the true meaning of a village.

Family members include her loving daughter, Lisa Hubschman and her husband A. Guy of Andover; two sisters, Beverly Jean Demone of New Jersey, and the late Dorothy Coogan; three grandsons, Thomas Hubschman and his wife Daliena of Cambridge, Douglas Hubschman of Somerville, and William Hubschman of Andover; and great-grandmother of Eloise of Cambridge.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 8 at 10:00 AM at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 7 from 4 to 8 PM at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.

Michael James May – 40, of North Reading, died unexpectedly at his home on February 22, 2019.

He was born in Brighton, MA on July 18, 1978. He was a graduate of North Reading High School in North Reading, MA..

Michael was a dedicated small engine mechanic and operated his own business. Mike was an accomplished rider in the motocross circuit and he enjoyed blazing trails with other riders. He loved music, writing songs and playing in the band ‘A Common Goal’ with his band brothers. He also enjoying snowboarding, snowmobiling, and boating in the summer. He loved working with wood and building things, one of his favorites was bunk beds!

He loved his children more than anything in this world and was an exceptional father to them. He had an infectious smile that would light up a room and a very quick wit that would have you rolling on the floor! He was a friend to everyone he met and would be the first to show up when you needed help. He was kind, loving, caring, generous, hilarious and compassionate to everyone. He always put everyone else before himself and you would never find a more sincere friend.

Family members include his loving children, Serenity, Mahalia and Michael J. May Jr., and his wife Nicole. His father, Stephen O. May of North Reading, MA and more recently, due to his health, Clearwater, FL; his mother, Shirley A. May and her husband Roy Richardson of Henniker, NH; his stepsister Daryl Martin and her husband Matt of Haverhill, MA, and niece Brooklyn; his stepbrother Evan Richardson of Haverhill, MA; his uncle,Joseph Deveau and his wife Christine of Medway, MA, his cousins, Brandon and Derek, and Rianna.

Glen Alan Dobson, Jr. – 36, of Fitchburg, formerly of Washington and North Reading, died unexpectedly at his home on February 22, 2019.

Born in Washington, D.C. on August 24, 1982. He was a graduate of Saint Bernard’s Catholic High School in Fitchburg and Wyoming Tech in Wyoming.

Glen was a dedicated U.S. Army Veteran of the Iraq War, he served from 2004 to 2012, as a Sergeant Engineer Equipment Repairer, in charge of QAQC. Prior to the service he worked as an auto body mechanic.

Glen enjoyed drawing, autos, cooking and was involved in Veteran’s issues. He had a special smile, a quick wit and had a great love for his family.

Family members include his loving daughters, OliviaJane K. Dobson and ErikaJoy K. Dobson  of Raymond, Washington; his mother, Kerry A. (Muise) Henshaw and her husband Wayne of Groveland; his sister, Danielle Carlson her husband Jeremy of Haverhill; nephews, Michael, Ryan and Jacob Carlson; he was the son of the late Glen A. Dobson, Sr.

Calling hours will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Friday, March 1 from 4 to 7 PM. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 11 AM in Riverside Cemetery, North Reading. A procession will leave from the funeral home at 10:45 AM.

Debra Lynn (Van Wie) Govostes – 57, from Eden, New York; Cheshire, CT and North Reading, MA, passed away on Tuesday, February 5th, after a prolonged battle with cancer.  She lived in Mount Pleasant, SC for the past 3 years.

Deb was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Phyllis Van Wie of Cheshire, CT.  Deb is survived by her children, Nicholas and Marina, aged 21, and her siblings and their spouses:  Daniel Van Wie, Sergio & Dawn (Van Wie) Deganis, Douglas & Sharon Van Wie, and Donald Van Wie, Jr., all from CT and her beloved nieces and nephews:  Ryan, Haley, Alexandra, Marisa, Julie, Mark, Justin, John, Meghan, Jake, Claire and Matthew.  She also leaves behind several dear friends from NY, CT and MA.

Calling hours will be held at Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading, MA on Friday, March 8th from 4:00 -7:00 P.M.  A memorial service is planned for her at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 235 Park Street, North Reading, MA, on March 9th at 2:00 PM, where she and her children were members.

Deb will be remembered as a loving mother, loyal friend, accomplished attorney, beloved sibling, and most especially, as a fun-loving, compassionate and generous soul that touched many lives and enjoyed many close and life-long friendships.

 Estelle (Sanford) Weir, 91, passed away peacefully in Newburyport, MA on February 20, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 11, 1927 in Boston, MA, Estelle was the only child of devoted and loving parents, Helen and Clayton Sanford. She was raised in Greenwood on Oak Street next door to her loving grandparents and great-grandparents, where she gained a love of flowers and artwork. Estelle attended high school at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA and loved her summers on Cape Cod.

Estelle was the former wife of the late William N. Weir. In 1955, she settled in North Reading where she lived and raised a wonderful family. Her life was full: she was an antique dealer, artist, quilter, avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She loved music, books, crows, flowers and nature. At age 60, she earned a degree in anthropology from Brandeis University.

Preceding her in death was her soulmate, Gene Martineau, who shared her love of nature, antiques and art.

She will be remembered by her eight children and their spouses: William Weir (Haekyung), Thomas Weir (Aida), Diane Weir (Michael), Carolyn Tabaie, Patricia Ketabchi, Anita Knapp (Carl), Terence Weir (Lori) and Jonathan Weir (Jill).  She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to acknowledge Avita of Newburyport. Their expert care, kindness, and love brought her and her family the peace needed in her final years. We would also like to acknowledge Terry Bridgewood, her caretaker and friend, who spent countless hours visiting and caring for our mother.

Our mother, an old soul, always said she had a wonderful life, and so we are left with bountiful memories, her wisdom, and the joy of having her with us for 91 years.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading, MA on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A private burial service will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield, MA
