Filomena M. (D’Ambrosio) Smith – 94, of North Reading, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on March 20, 2020, of natural causes.

She was the daughter of the late Maurice and Sylvia (Sousa) D’ Ambrosio. She was born in Cambridge, MA and attended Somerville High School. Filomena was married to the late John W. “Smitty” Smith for seventy wonderful years. She was a war-time bride.

Her husband died in 2012. Together they ran two business in North Reading for many years, Smitty’s Gulf Station and Smitty’s Texaco Service. Filomena was the bookkeeper.

She was a resident of North Reading for the past 64 years. When she was younger, she was active in St. Theresa’s Church Sodality. Her hobbies included doll collecting, gardening, birdwatching and Italian cooking. She was known for her delicious Italian meatball and bracioles. She was also an advocate for Woman’s Rights. Her greatest love was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family members include her loving daughter, Phyllis Dalby and her husband Clive; her son, Gary Smith and his wife Wendy; grandchildren, Suzanne Holland, Jason Smith and Julian Dalby; her great granddaughters, Charlotte and Vivian Holland, Jasmine Smith; she is also survived by her sister Irene Fullilove and many nieces and nephews; she was the sister of the late Sylvia Zaccardi, Robert D’ Ambrosio and Maurice D’ Ambrosio, Jr.

Services will be private at her request. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Robert R. Capillo – 89, of North Reading and formerly of East Boston, died Friday, March 20, 2020 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in Boston, MA on May 20, 1930. He was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Bandini) Capillo. Bob was a graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1947 and he received his Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lowell Tech in 1962.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, he was a Staff Sergeant and served from 1951 to 1955.

Bob was a self-employed general contractor for many years. Bob was a resident of North Reading for 64 years and an active member of St. Theresa’s Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a Past Grand Knight and a former District Deputy.

Bob was known for his kindness, humor, laugh and personality. He always had a smile on his face, he was a very faithful Catholic. Bob especially loved to sing and perform. He was an avid golfer, he enjoyed boating, fishing, winters in Florida and spending time with his family.

Family members include his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley (McArdle) Capillo; his son Michael Capillo and wife Donna; daughters, Maureen Turner and husband Jeff, Eileen Perron and husband Roddy, Julie Bornstein and husband David and the late Roberta Entwistle; grandchildren, Crystal Richardson and husband Michael, Joseph Entwistle, Anthony and Ashley Capillo, Rebecca and Jillian Turner, William and Rachel Bornstein, Colton and Rudy Perron; great grandchildren, Claire and Andrew Richardson. He was the brother of the late John Doto, Margaret Strangie and Dot Marotta.

Funeral services will be private, due to the concerns of the current situation with the Coronavirus. Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Lois A. (Little) Simes – 89, of North Reading and formerly of Lynnfield, died Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was the beloved wife of the late John B. Simes.

Born in Lynn, MA on July 16, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Lester and Hilda (Robertson) Little. Lois was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1948. She received her Real Estate Brookers License in 1980. Lois had many years of taking Adult Education classes at the North Reading High School, mostly in the arts and sewing. She also took piano lessons for many years with Laura Balcomb.

Lois was a homemaker, she worked as a Broker for the Carlson and Sweezey Real Estate Offices, she was a former cashier for Rexall Drug Store in North Reading, she sold Avon and volunteered with the Union Congregational Church for many years.

Lois was much loved by family, friends and neighbors for her kindness, caring, big heart, generosity, musical and artistic talents. She loved reading great books constantly. The Librarians at the Flint Memorial Library have been wonderful and so helpful to her this last year especially.

Lois loved her family condo in Falmouth. She loved swimming, the ocean beaches and sunshine. She did water aerobics at the Boston Sports Club for many years. She loved fashion design, sewing, piano, singing and seeing family and friends. Lois has been a resident of North Reading for the past 60 years, where she was a member of the Union Congregational Church for 60 years and a member of the church choir for 58 years.

Family members include her loving son, Daniel J. Simes and his former wife Gail Manzelli, her daughter, Karen Simes Kornacki and her husband Alan S. Kornacki, all of North Reading. She was the mother of the late Bonnie Simes, who died in 1972; grandmother of Evan C. Kornacki of Houston, TX; sister of the late Gordon Little, Richard Little and Phyllis Reed; sister- in- law of Jean Little of Tucson, AZ and Elaine Little of Lynn. She was the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Kaplan Family Hospice House and all the family and friends for all their love and support, given to Lois. A private graveside will be held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Peabody at a future date. James P. Mckinnon – 59, of Myrtle Beach SC, died with his loving family surrounding him at home on February 29, 2020.

Born in Boston, MA, on Nov. 19, 1960. He was the son of the late Maxwell and Amelia (Mitzi) Mckinnon formerly of North Reading.

Family members include, his Loving wife of 27 years, Ivana (Eva) Mckinnon of Myrtle Beach, SC; sons, Maxwell M. Mckinnon of Myrtle Beach, SC and James P. Mckinnon, Jr. of East Boston; brother, Robert M. Mckinnon of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandson, James Grover of MA; sister and brother-In- law, Jane and Peter Harris; mother- in- law, Jana Machane; and his favorite three nephews, Devon, Trevor and Pete Harris, all of Tewksbury, also many cousins he loved.

Jamie lived at Martins Pond in North Reading most of his life. He graduated from North Reading High School, Class of 1978.

He was an AVID Boston Sports Fan and would always think he knew all the stats of every player and team, even if he was wrong. He was a very skilled craftsman and could build you anything you asked for. He loved the outdoors and camping, he also loved playing golf with his friends and even moved his family out to Myrtle Beach to play golf year-round. Most of all, Jamie loved to spend time with his family, he had an infectious smile and will definitely be missed by all.

Sean E. Burke – 35, of North Reading, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, March 2, 2020.

Born in Stoneham, MA on April 1, 1984. He was raised and attended school in North Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 2003.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Afghanistan War. He was a private First Class and he served from 2008 to 2011. Sean was a Disabled Veteran.

Sean was loving and kindhearted. He was especially proud to have served in the U.S. Army. He had pride and honor for his country. He Loved golfing and Candlepin Bowling.

Family members include his loving parents, Edward J. and Sandra M. (Surprenant) Burke; his brothers, Kevin J. and Scott H. Burke; his sister, Morgan E. Burke and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
